Solving today’s challenges for tomorrow’s farmers
Launched in 2022 with a $2 million investment from Nationwide, the AgTech Innovation Hub is transforming agriculture by addressing the industry’s most pressing challenges. In its first year, five groundbreaking research projects provided significant insights that tackle real-world problems, creating a ripple effect that is set to benefit farmers, communities and the agricultural ecosystem for years to come.
Expanding innovation in 2025
Building on the success of the initial projects, four new research initiatives have been funded to address three critical agricultural needs:
development
resilience

“The Hub is an incubator for groundbreaking research aimed at future-proofing agriculture to benefit our farmers, local communities and the agricultural industry.”
— Devin Fuhrman, Chief Agriculture and Sponsor Relations Officer, Nationwide
Leading the charge in ATV safety
All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and utility task vehicles (UTVs) have become indispensable tools on farms, used for tasks such as inspecting crops, transporting supplies and managing livestock. However, their expanding use also brings increased risks. To address these challenges, Nationwide partnered with the RideSafe Foundation to host safety events at three schools in central Iowa, training over 2,000 students on proper riding techniques and helmet fitting.
In March, Nationwide launched the Let's Champion Rider Safety® initiative in collaboration with Dale Earnhardt Jr. to promote safe, responsible vehicle use.
As a protection-focused company, Nationwide is committed to equipping farmers and their family members with the tools and knowledge to reduce accidents, prevent injuries and build a culture of safety in rural communities.
“We see the explosive growth in ATV and UTV use across rural America, but it’s also important to recognize the inherent risks they pose if not used correctly.”
— Dirk Pollitt, Vice President of Farm Sales and Underwriting, Nationwide Agribusiness
Safeguarding vulnerable customers
Older adults are particularly at risk from increasingly sophisticated financial fraud schemes, which can result in devastating losses.
To assist them, Nationwide deploys advanced artificial intelligence to analyze 4.5 million calls annually to identify fraudulent activity in real time. In 2024 alone, this technology generated more than 21,000 fraud alerts and confirmed 943 fraudulent cases, helping to protect our customers and their finances from significant harm.
When scammers posing as FBI agents targeted a 75-year-old member, Nationwide’s Fraud and Investigation team sprang into action.
By utilizing advanced technology and collaborative teamwork, they uncovered the scheme, worked to rebuild the member's trust, and directed her to local law enforcement to verify the fraud. Their efforts ultimately saved her from losing everything.
